Lobsters

Did you know there are lobsters that don't have claws? Spiny lobsters are commonly known as crawfish or crayfish. The largest lobster every caught, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, was in Canada and weighed in at 44.4 pounds! Because they live in murky waters, lobsters have very poor eyesight and rely primarily on their antennae as sensors. Although lobsters generally move about the ocean floor at a slow pace, when they are in danger and need to flee, they swim backwards at speeds of up to 5 meters per second. Like humans, lobsters carry their young for 9 months and can live to be over 100 years old! Check out this link to read about how some sympathetic activists saved a 40 year-old, 15 pound lobster from the boiling pot. Did you know that boiling lobsters alive is illegal in Reggio, Italy, and that violators face fines of up to $600? Jump on over to lobsterlib.com to learn more about the crusade to save lobsters.
